Kid K’s EP, Projection, is the rapper’s shot into insight. During the project, Kid K talks about the complex emotions and experiences that have occurred in his early twenties. The production of the project is studio quality. Returning listens drive up the value of this EP. It’s a genuine project in a sea of an oversaturated hip-hop market. His approach to feel good hip-hop, R&B, and party hits combine to create a well-rounded EP.

Sonically I feel like the record is influenced by dance feels and infectious hooks. K’s voice is smooth and the autotuned layers provide a flair to a confident vocal performance. I think this confidence comes from an acceptance of self. K knows who he is and he wears it as an admirable quality. He’s a genuine guy that seeks the constant betterment of himself and others. On “Don’t Be” he offers advice he has experienced firsthand. He says all goals are obtainable if someone simply seeks them. His messages are positive and an honest perception of his reality.

I think one of the strengths of this EP is the integrity of the music in a genre that sometimes struggles with integrity. It’s easy to be corny and cliché on feel good instrumentals. Kid K doesn’t opt out, each line is a chance to up the ante, cleverly boast, or offer advice and insight.

Also, his song “Isn’t Real” about the passing of his mother is an honest, life lesson, that Kid K shares with the listener. He offers a refrain to comfort people who have experienced loss and the song closes with a beautiful string section that pulls the experience together.
Overall Projection is an ambitious effort of a talented, young Emcee smoothly moving through all the motions life moves his way. Through the good times, and bad, Kid K sees the lesson to be learned and shares it with the listener. I believe Projection is a positive forecast of what is to come for the twenty-three-year-old Chattanooga rapper.
Favorite lines:
“Only trying to get a check cuz I got bills to pay”
“Secret is it’s all obtainable”
“Life can fade away, takin shots for days”
